Milk in schools

On Tuesday this week we started taking part in the Fonterra Milk for Schools programme. We were all very excited! We now look forward to drinking it every morning after our run. We have learnt how to fold the carton so it is very small, so they are able to be put it in the recycling bin. We think that it is pretty amazing that the cartons are able to be recycled into roofing tiles, and books. Take a look at us enjoying the milk and showing our expert folding skills.

Art Suite

Today we got to complete our spiders. We all were extremely excited. First we covered our spider in glue and then stuck the cellophane on. Then we hot glued the legs and eyes on. The last thing we did was make a sparkly pattern on the spiders body. Don't they look spectacular!

Wednesday, 7 August 2013

On Wednesday morning we went to see the Minstrel perform. He sang some songs, we got to do some moves with Mrs Minstrel. The Minstrel talked to us about some boating safety rules, and fishing rules. Some audience members got to go up and tell us about things that they knew. He was very funny and liked to rhyme words with everyone's names.

Zero Waste

We have had Rachel in over the week teaching us about Zero Waste. We have learnt many facts and had heaps of fun. We have learnt how to Reduce the waste pile by shopping sensibly. Reuse things instead of throwing them into the landfill. Recycle things that are made from natural resources. We also learnt about composting. We found out that you can put anything in a compost bin that comes from a plant. We were extremely interested in finding out about Tiger Worms. Some interesting facts that we learnt was a Tiger Worm has 5 hearts, if it's head or tail gets chopped off they grow back.

Swimming

We are extremely lucky to have swimming coaches for the next two weeks to teach us swimming. They are fantastic! Here are a few pictures of us over the last couple of days.

Art Suite Term 3

Room 16 has been to the art suite twice so far this term. Look at our spiders we are in the process of making. I'm sure that they are all going to look fabulous! So far we have made the bodies of our spiders from newspaper, then we plastered over the newspaper so that the spiders body would be hard. We are off to the art suite on Friday again to complete them, so make sure you check out our next post so you can see our finished product.
